	BANGSA Indonesia memiliki catatan sejarah panjang dan menyedihkan sebelum memasuki era kemerdekaan.  Indonesia pernah dijajah oleh bangsa asing tiga setengah abad lamanya.  Selama masa penjajahan itu bangsa Indonesia sangat menderita.  Sebagai negara jajahan, rakyat dipaksa untuk bekerja namun hasil kerja mereka diambil oleh para penjajah. Merasakan kehidupan yang begitu sulit dan terkekang oleh para penjajah. Para pemuda mulai melakukan konsolidasi dan perlawanan untuk mendapatkan kembali kebebasannya. Namun dalam memperjuangkan kebebasan tersebut puluhan bahkan ratusan ribu yang menjadi korban dan gugur dalam perjuangan tersebut. Puncaknya, pada tanggal 17 Agustus 1945, bangsa Indonesia memproklamirkan diri sebagai bangsa yang bebas dan merdeka dari para penjajah. Sebagai hari lahir bangsa Indonesia dan sebagai hari kemerdekaan maka sudah seharusnya kita sebagai warga dan masyarakat Indonesia untuk selalu mengenang dan memperingati hari tersebut.   Peringatan ini juga sebagai salah satu cara agar  selalu ingat akan jasa dari para pejuang kita.  Sudah banyak tayangan media yang bisa kita saksikan bagaimana menderita dan pedihnya hidup dinegara yang masih dalam keadaan terjajah.Alangkah beruntungnya kita bisa hidup dinegara yang bebas dan merdeka. Upacara pengibaran bendera, pengibaran bendera di setiap rumah warga dan permainan rakyat adalah kegiatan yang biasa dilakukan saat peringatan hari kemerdekaan tanggal 17 Agustus.  Kemeriahan lainnya seperti merias pintu gerbang di mulut gang sebagai lambang sudah tibanya bangsa Indonesia di gerbang kemerdekaan juga  dilakukan. Namun terlepas dari itu semua, hal yang paling penting adalah bagaimana kita bisa menanamkan makna peringatan 17 Agustus ini kepada para generasi muda saat ini. Yang utama bukan pada kegiatan seremonialnya semata. Terpenting adalah agar para generasi muda kita paham dan mengerti bahwa untuk mendapatkan sebuah kemerdekaan bukanlah perkara yang mudah, perlu pengorbanan besar. Dengan demikian para generasi muda kita mempunyai rasa hormat, terima kasih dan bangga dengan apa yang telah dilakukan para pejuang pada masa perjuangan dulu. Apabila semangat dan makna peringatan hari kemerdekaan ini dapat ditanamkan secara baik kepada generasi muda sebagai generasi penerus bangsa maka diharapkan sejalan dengan itu rasa nasionalime bangsa akan tumbuh dengan sendirinya dalam sanubari para generasi muda tersebut.   Tidak ada lagi warga yang tidak memasang bendera saat peringatan hari kemerdekaan.  Tidak ada lagi yang menjelek-jelekkan bangsanya sendiri dan mengagung-agungkan  bangsa lain.  Kepada Pemerintah juga diharapkan dapat melaksanakan tugasnya yaitu membangun dan mengisi kemerdekaan ini secara adil dan merata disemua daerah
